Gym Monitor

Part-time, Hourly Non-Exempt.  Hours are Monday - Thursday from 5:00 - 9:00PM

Location: Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA

Summary

Performs routine work in supervising participants and monitoring activities in gymnasiums. Provides facility set-up and break-down in accordance with programming and events and performs light cleaning duties. Does related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises gymnasium participants
  • Enforces all rules and regulations of the gymnasium
  • Ensures that all programs during shift are executed and monitored
  • Operates scoreboard and manages team play during adult pickup times
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all members in the gymnasium in accordance with facility policies
  • Ineracts with participants as needed to maintain a positive environment and provide excellent customer service
  • Removes offending users from the gymnasium per facility policies
  • Performs light cleaning duties to ensure the gymnasium is clean and in good working condition
  • Keeps track of and secures gym equipment
  • Monitors all entrances and exits

Wellness Coordinator - Group Exercise

Part-time, Hourly Non-Exempt

Location: Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA

Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Working with the Wellness Director, assists with general wellness and group exercise operations, plans and delivers group exercise trainings, and coordinates monthly group exercise schedule. Teaches activities and/or classes in a group setting at a YMCA recreational facility in keeping with generally accepted industry standards for safety and effectiveness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

 

  • Serves as first point of contact for group exercise instructors and refers issues to the Wellness Director as needed.
  • Fulfills role of group exercise instructor as scheduled.
  • Assists group exercise instructors in finding class coverage. Provides class coverage as needed.
  • Keeps all certifications current and updates them before expiration.
  • Creates general schedule for group exercise instructors, and provides to Wellness Director for approval. Develops, publishes and monitors a written schedule of classes and programs with approval from the Wellness Director. Develops training and in-service schedule and tracks attendance.
  • Screens all group exercise instructors for credentials and skills and refers qualified candidates to Wellness Director for interview and hire. Provides ongoing feedback of staff skills to Wellness Director for consideration in staff evaluations.
  • Evaluates each instructor yearly to using the approved performance appraisal tool. Conducts random participant evaluation for each instructor quarterly.
  • Provides additional support for group exercise program as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment. Recommends equipment repairs and purchases to Wellness Director as needed.
  • Enforces YMCA rules and policies in a polite and positive manner.
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the group exercise program areas.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Checks the multi-purpose rooms for hazardous conditions when arriving, and reports safety issues to Wellness Director or Maintenance Director.
  • Works an agreed upon number of hours on the Wellness Center floor as a Wellness Coach.
  • Track group exercise class attendance and reports to Wellness Director on a monthly basis.
  • Track group exercise instructor certifications, and YUSA course completion, and report to Wellness Director on a monthly basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains an appropriate personal appearance including staff uniform and follows official YMCA of Northwest Florida dress code when acting as a YMCA employee.
  • Enforces YMCA rules and policies in a polite and positive manner, especially cell phone usage and dress code.
  • In case of an accident or injury, fills out an accident report form completely and returns to the Wellness Director. Communicates with director about incidents to make sure that proper corrective steps are taken as needed.
  • Reports any problems to immediate supervisor, or to another supervisory staff in the Wellness Director’s absence
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the Christian mission of the YMCA and its values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Demonstrates a strong personal commitment to a lifestyle that promotes healthy spirit, mind and body. Serves as a role model for members, participants and children of this commitment.

We are seeking Lifeguards and Head Lifeguards with weekend, daytime, evening and early morning availability to work seasonally at our outdoor aquatic locations.  

 

Applicants should have lifeguard certification and CPR and First Aid from a national agency.  Lifeguard classes are scheduled at the Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA.
