Shared values hold families and communities together, and character development must be a responsibility shared by the whole community. If we work together to live out our values every day, and pass them on to our children, we can go a long way toward solving some of our society’s most pressing problems.

As part of our commitment to creating lasting and meaningful change in our community, we are dedicated to reaching out beyond our four walls and inviting others to benefit from the many assets that the Y is blessed to have.

Waterfront Rescue Mission Partnership
The YMCA of Northwest Florida and Waterfront Rescue Mission are partnering to expand services to those experiencing homelessness. With a mission to provide rescue and recovery services, Waterfront offers a wide range of programs to combat the complex problem of homelessness. The former Downtown YMCA provided free showers to the homeless for more than 20 years.

Through the new partnership, both organizations are leveraging their respective resources to enhance what they already provide to homeless individuals. Waterfront now provides transportation to the new Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA for clients who have reached specific milestones in their program. These individuals enjoy membership privileges at the Y as part of their overall program experience at the Mission.

Facility Use
We also believe that we have a responsibility to share our physical facilities with the community at large whenever possible. Groups seeking space for their own programs are invited to contact us if we may be able to meet your needs. We will accommodate groups at no charge if possible. In some circumstances, we will need to charge nominal fees to cover our direct expenses.

Groups and programs we have hosted include:

  • Special Olympics swim team practice
  • Scout groups using the pool for badge testing
  • Churches holding services, prayer groups and fellowship
  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters enjoying family time with their “littles”
  • Learn to Read of Northwest Florida tutors meeting with their students
  • Churches holding baptisms in our pools
  • Youth groups and sports teams enjoying lock-ins
  • Youth teams practicing sports

Community Education
We are also committed to sharing the knowledge and expertise of our staff for the benefit of all in the community. We welcome invitations to serve as guest speakers to professional, civic and other nonprofit groups; to participate in community, work and school health fairs; and to assist with other outreach events as needed.
