Everyone has mental health. Our mental health is our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, and act and determines how we handle stress and make choices in our lives. Mental and physical wellbeing are important components in our overall health.

Our mental health can change over time, depending on our life stage and other demands we face in our lives. It is important to develop habits to manage our mental wellbeing and take time for ourselves to boost our mental health.

Five Activities to Boost Your Mental Health

  • Talk to a close friend or loved one.
    • Talking to people who know and love you can help you feel supported and part of a community.
  • Get moving.
    • Physical activity improves mental health, specifically self-esteem and cognitive function.
  • Ask for help when you need it.
    • Asking for help brings us closer to our community, allows us to feel seen and heard, and helps us learn to advocate for our needs.
  • Enjoy nature.
    • Getting outside benefits your mental health by improving mood, promoting relaxation, and reducing feelings of stress.
  • Learn something new.
    • Whether it’s reading about a topic that interests you, learning to paint or draw, or taking up another new hobby, the challenge and joy of learning a new skill is certainly beneficial to mental health.
